Quality Assurance Work
The Process
Exploratory testing
This unit I was tasked with a quality assurance role for a game that was being developed by more experienced developers. Although the game was only in its early stages, the QA role had much to offer, as the game was filled with bugs and interesting gameplay. It was almost therapeutic writing up the tests that would ultimately be used throughout the entirety of the games development process.
Not only did the role require me to write up tests to ensure that the mechanics of the game ran consistently every new build, but I was also tasked with conducting play tests through the target market that gave me valuable insights into how the game is played from an outside perspective. This aided in a lot of the decision making that the designers made moving forward in the development process.
Tools
Using standard tools as well as being provided insights from a QA lead from the industry, I was able to create documents and resources that the developers were able to utilise to create a better experience for the player. Using tools such as hack’n’plan, Microsoft Excel and Word, I found the process of providing feedback to be effective and simple.
